Topspin: Three Quarters of Direct-to-Fan E-Commerce Dollars Still from Physical Goods

February 16, 2012 · Posted in M&E Daily, Today's M&E Connections

Amidst the proliferation of digital distribution opportunities for music acts, Topspin Media — the e-commerce company whose platform powers the direct-to-fan websites of the Beastie Boys, The Civil Wars, and other artists — says that a full 75 percent of its revenues still come from sales of physical goods.

In terms of unit sales, Topspin chief executive Ian Rogers tells Digital Music News that the company’s business is evenly divided between digital and physical goods. But the revenue split remains consistent with what Topspin observed in 2010, Digital Music News reports.

Music acts utilize Topspin’s platform to sell exclusive physical and digital editions of albums and videos, as well as merchandise and concert tickets.
