Disc Rentals Top $5.6 Billion in 2011: Rentrak

Change continues in the market for Blu-ray and DVD disc rentals, as business at automated kiosks grew by 28 percent during the fourth quarter of 2011, but overall revenues for the rental business declined by 21 percent during the same period, according to Rentrak.

Still, the research firm estimates that DVD and Blu-ray rentals still represented the “number one choice” for video consumers in 2011, having generated $5.65 billion during the year. The annual disc rental revenues represent a 3.4 percent decline from 2010.
