Music Industry’s Revenue Decline Slows
“2011 marked the least negative result in global recorded music sales since 2004, when revenues were flat,” according to the latest report from music industry trade group IFPI (via paidContent). The organization estimates that the global music industry generated $16.3 billion in revenues during 2011, a 3 percent drop from 2010 (via Billboard). Variables in the IPFI’s latest calculations include a restatement of U.S. dollar values at 2011 exchange rates. The trade group also looks to include synchronization licensing of recordings for movies, video games, and television commercials within overall music industry revenues going forward.
