In Demand LLC, the video on demand venture co-owned by major U.S. cable companies, is acquiring rights to a range of Spanish-language content in preparation for a new pay-per-view and video on demand service that will be geared toward Hispanic audiences.

Content available through the service, which In Demand plans to launch across U.S. cable systems in the fourth quarter of 2012, will include live sporting events such as boxing, MMA, UFC, wrestling, and World Cup qualifying soccer matches, all with commentary produced in Spanish. The service also will offer Spanish-language comedy, drama, music, and reality programming.

In Demand points to SNL Kagan data that estimates more than 85% of Hispanic homes in the U.S. have multichannel television service. The local U.S. television market for Hispanic or Latino homes is nearly 14 million as of January 1, 2012, according to Nielsen.
