Hardware: Blu-ray Chip Revenues Overtook DVD In ’09
The transition from DVD to Blu-ray players and recorders is creating a substantial opportunity for Blu-ray semiconductor companies, reports In-Stat. Net-Connected Game Consoles Top 20% Household Penetration
One in five of households (20%) have a videogame system connected to the Internet, compared with 8% that have an Internet-connected TV set, and 6% with an Internet-connected Blu-ray player, according to Leichtman Research.
Meanwhile, 55% of Netflix subscribers have used the service’s “Watch Instantly” feature in the past month, according to the research firm. Overall, Leichtman says, 3% of adults watch a full length TV show online daily, and 11% weekly. Leichtman Research
Walmart’s Black Friday Specials Include $78 Blu-ray Player, $2 DVDs
Walmart will be rolling out a $78 Magnavox Blu-ray Disc player on Black Friday, staying true to its billing as the low-price leader. The retailer also will sell a large number of $2 catalog DVD titles, including “Casino Royale,” “Hellboy II,” “I Am Legend,” “Blood Diamond,” “Underworld” and “Spaceballs.” By Video Business
